The honest answer
Yes, and the reason is geometry, not luxury. The falls drop into a narrow crack that runs across the river. Every viewpoint on foot stands on the opposite wall of that crack, a hundred metres away, looking sideways through trees and spray. You see sections. Twelve minutes in the air is the only way to see the thing whole.

The one thing to know

The letters stand on the south face of Mount Lee inside a closed, monitored area: there is no visitor road to them and no path that reaches their front. The hiking trails on the mountain all arrive from behind or from the side, which is why so many photographs taken on foot are either of the back of the letters or from far enough away that they are a smudge on a hillside. From a helicopter they are simply there, face on, at the angle every postcard uses. The water goes over a straight lip 1,700 metres long and lands in a gorge barely wider than a street. Every viewpoint you can walk to stands on the opposite wall of that gorge, a hundred metres away, looking sideways along the curtain through trees.
From the air the whole thing is simply there, in one frame. Twelve minutes is enough. The helipad is minutes from town, the pilot flies two circuits — one clockwise, one the other way, so both sides of the cabin get it — and the entire 1,700 metres sits below you at once.

The water level decides your month more than the temperature does. The Zambezi swings hugely between seasons. In full flood the curtain runs end to end and throws up so much spray that the walking viewpoints are a permanent downpour with very little visible through it. That is exactly when being above it is worth most.

Flights run all year, and the falls are never the same twice. The Zambezi swings enormously between the wet and the dry season, and that single fact decides what you see — and how much of it the spray lets you see.

The curtain runs the whole 1,700 metres and the spray climbs high enough to be seen from far outside the town. This is when the viewpoints on foot are at their worst: you stand in a permanent downpour of spray and see very little. The helicopter is above it.
Jun – Aug
Plenty of water, less spray, cool dry air and the sharpest light of the year. If you want one month for photographs, this is the window everyone points at.
Sep & Oct
The flow drops and long sections of the lip run dry, exposing the basalt face and the gorge floor. Less water, but far more of the structure — and this is when Devil’s Pool on the Zambian side is open.

The rains return and the river climbs back through these months. Hot, green and quiet, with the fewest visitors of the year and the water somewhere between the two extremes.
Worth knowing
Decide which side of the river you fly from before you book. Nine of these lift off in Zimbabwe, three at Livingstone in Zambia. If you are staying on the other side, the border crossing turns a twelve-minute flight into a half-day errand.
Book a window seat if the photographs matter. Seats in small helicopters are assigned by weight for balance, and on a twelve-minute flight over one curtain of water the side you are on decides everything. Most operators fly two circuits in opposite directions for exactly this reason — but only the window row gets both.
Twelve minutes really is twelve minutes. Door to door it is about an hour once check-in, the weigh-in, the briefing and the walk out are counted. Do not book anything tight afterwards.
